Shakawe, Botswana

In Shakawe, Botswana people are coming together to use farm implements co-operatively and increase annual production.

The village of Shakawe is located on the Okavango river in the northern part of the country (click on the image to open Google Maps). In this community about 95% of people are subsistence farmers who use donkeys and oxen to plow and harvest their crops every year.

Project Stage One: Stay Curious Playground will provide a safe space to foster social connection between parents and promote a sense of belonging for all children, especially those with disabilities. To this end, the playground will be wheelchair accessibility and inclusive play features such as double-wide slides, sensory/sound stations, and many intersections where children of different abilities and wealth can play together promote an inclusive environment.

Future Project Stages Include: Our Home Community Center, Our Land Community Garden, Our World Petting Zoo and Children’s Museum
